A view of large family kitchen with taj majal quartzite countertops and oversized island.

A Brushed Taj Mahal Quartzite Kitchen Built for Family Life

This Lemont family wanted a kitchen designed around how they actually live: room for a large, active household, and a space that works as the heart of the home for gathering and entertaining. They needed materials that stand up to constant daily use without giving up a refined look. Every custom detail, from the stonework to the furniture-style dining table and oversized island, was chosen to make the room warm and inviting.

Taj Mahal quartzite in a brushed finish was the anchor choice, picked for its durability and its ability to hide everyday wear while still reading as high design.

The Oversized Full-Height Quartzite Backsplash

One of the kitchen’s defining features is the oversized full-height quartzite backsplash. Because of its scale, the stone had to go in before the surrounding custom millwork, which meant a carefully coordinated installation sequence so the slab could be positioned without compromise. The cabinetry was then built around the stone, framing it as a single architectural focal point.

Full Bullnose Edges and a Custom One-of-a-Kind Quartzite Dining Table

Soft full bullnose edges carry throughout the kitchen, from the countertops to the custom backsplash ledge to the round dining table. That matching fluted millwork table extends the design beyond the island, creating a place where family meals happen naturally. The finished kitchen balances natural stone, custom craftsmanship, and everyday function.

The Stone: Brushed Taj Mahal Quartzite

  • Used throughout the kitchen: countertops, island, backsplash, and the custom dining table
  • Brushed finish chosen for durability and everyday practicality
  • Hides fingerprints, wear, and minor surface marks
  • Natural quartzite with a warm, organic character

Custom Fabrication and Millwork

  • Oversized full-height backsplash behind the stove, installed before the surrounding millwork because of its scale
  • Cabinetry precision-built around the stone, framing it as the focal point
  • Full bullnose edges throughout, softening corners for safety and a furniture-style look
  • Close coordination between fabrication, installation, and finish carpentry

Signature Custom Pieces

  • One-of-a-kind round dining table with a Taj Mahal quartzite top and matching full bullnose edge
  • Designed as an extension of the kitchen island, to encourage family gatherings
  • Partial full-height backsplash around the primary sink as a softer architectural accent
