Marble countertops for kitchens, bathrooms and bars
Prized for centuries, natural marble brings soft, flowing veining and a luminous depth that no engineered surface fully imitates. Each slab is one of a kind, quarried from the earth with its own pattern of movement, so the countertop you choose is unlike anyone else’s.
At Mart Design Co.’s studio in Naperville, homeowners can explore full marble slabs, compare colors and finishes, and get honest, expert guidance on selection, fabrication, and installation. Marble asks a little more of you than some stones, and we’ll walk you through what living with it is like before you commit.
Why choose marble countertops?
Marble has been the mark of timeless and elegant interiors for generations. It's a natural stone, so no two slabs match, and its cool surface and signature veining give kitchens and baths a classic character that reads as high design without shouting about it. Here's what draws homeowners to it:
Unmatched natural veining and movement
Every slab is one of a kind
Timeless and classic elegance
Naturally cool surface
Brightens and opens up a space
Adds lasting design value to a home
Marble countertop colors and styles
Marble ranges from crisp, gallery-white backgrounds to warm creams and moody grays, and the veining can be a whisper or the whole story. Every slab tells its own.

How Stone Countertops Are Fabricated: From Slab to InstallationMarble takes real skill to fabricate well. Soft, veined stone has to be cut and seamed so the pattern flows, and edges shaped so the material is protected where it’s handled most. Because our fabrication happens in-house here in Naperville, the same team that helps you choose the slab is the one templating, cutting, and setting it. On one recent kitchen, our fabricators built a custom marble shelf right where a full-height backsplash met a vaulted ceiling, turning an awkward stopping point into one of the best features in the room, and vein-matched a double waterfall island so the pattern flows unbroken down both sides. That kind of result comes from the shop, not the slab.

Frequently asked questions about marble
Yes, with the right expectations. Marble is softer and more porous than granite or quartzite, so it can etch and scratch over time. Many homeowners love that lived-in patina. If you’d rather minimize it, a honed finish and prompt sealing go a long way, and we’ll walk you through the tradeoffs before you decide.
es. Marble is porous and should be sealed on installation and periodically after, which helps it resist staining from oils, wine, and acidic foods. We’ll explain the sealing schedule for the specific marble you choose so it stays beautiful.
Etching is a dull mark left when something acidic (lemon, vinegar, wine) reacts with the stone’s surface. It’s different from a stain. A honed finish makes etching far less noticeable, which is why we often recommend honed marble for kitchens.
arble spans a wide range depending on the variety and rarity of the slab. Some marbles are comparable to premium granite or quartzite, while rare statement slabs cost more. Seeing full slabs in our studio is the best way to match a marble you love to your project.
They can look similar, but quartzite is harder and more scratch- and etch-resistant, while marble is softer with a distinctive cool feel and classic veining. If you want the marble look with more durability, we’ll show you quartzites that get you there.
Yes. Because we fabricate in-house, we can sequence the cuts from the same slab so the veining flows continuously down a waterfall island or up a full-height backsplash, which is one of the most striking things marble can do. Check out this project we’ve completed in Naperville.
